VL: Postcard system reserach

social/cultural
Life in Scientific view

Life is a process that distinguishes organisms from non-living objects, such as non-life, and dead organisms. Living organisms are capable of growth and reproduction, some can communicate and many can adapt to their environment through changes originating internally. A physical characteristic of life is that it feeds on negative entropy. In more detail, according to physicists such as John Bernal, Erwin Schrödinger, Eugene Wigner, and John Avery, life is a member of the class of phenomena which are open or continuous systems able to decrease their internal entropy at the expense of substances or free energy taken in from the environment and subsequently rejected in a degraded form.

An entity with the above properties is considered to be a living organism, hence, a 'life form'. However, not every definition of life considers all of these properties to be essential. For example, the capacity for evolution is sometimes taken as the only essential property of life; this definition notably includes viruses, which do not qualify under narrower definitions as they are acellular and do not metabolize.

Life in philosophical view

One part of the field on life's meaning consists of the systematic attempt to clarify what people mean when they ask in virtue of what life has meaning. This section addresses different accounts of the sense of talk of “life's meaning” (and of “significance,” “importance,” and other synonyms). A large majority of those writing on life's meaning deem talk of it centrally to indicate a positive final value that an individual's life can exhibit. So, few believe either that a meaningful life is a neutral quality or that what is of key interest is the meaning of all biological life or of the human species. Most ultimately want to know whether and how the existence of one of us over time has meaning, a certain property that is desirable for its own sake.

Another uncontroversial element of the sense of “meaningfulness” is that it connotes a good that is conceptually distinct from happiness or rightness. First, to ask whether someone's life is meaningful is not one and the same as asking whether her life is happy or well off. A life in an experience or virtual reality machine could conceivably be happy but is not a prima facie candidate for meaningfulness, and, furthermore, one's life logically could become meaningful precisely by sacrificing one's welfare, e.g., by helping others at the expense of oneself. Second, asking whether a person's existence is significant is not identical to considering whether she has been morally upright; there seem to be ways to enhance meaning that have nothing to do with morality, for instance making a scientific discovery. Of course, one might argue that a life would be meaningless if (or even because) it were immoral or unhappy, particularly given Aristotelian conceptions of these disvalues. However, that is to posit a synthetic relationship between the concepts, and is far from indicating that speaking of “meaning in life” is analytically a matter of connoting ideas regarding welfare or morality, which is what I am denying here. My point is that the question of what makes a life meaningful is conceptually distinct from the question of what makes a life well off or morally upright, even if it turns out that the best answer to the question of meaning appeals to an answer to one of these other evaluative questions.

Wikipedia - Life

• What is the impact/relationship to other products?
Actually the object doesn't relate anything with life. My object is a mechanical toy which has nothing to deal with life. However, when I saw how Jason interacted with my image, I felt that was a message which was beyond the actually meaning of the object. In that image, I saw a narrative talking about life.

• What is ONE argument from the view of social that can be made about the object?
How can a toy reflect back to the meaning of life in human

• What are the ramifications or benefits of this system?
The benefits of this system is understanding more how communication can transform a message to totally different than the original message. A message can be interpreted differently base on different people.

SM: show opener research

I chose to work on TV show opener because I haven't really deal with anything as video media. I think this will be more fun to make motion graphic than only making a single graphic. It will be a good experience to help myself to expend my media range as practicing to become a graphic designer. This project will work better in my portfolio than the data presentation because motion graphic is fairly new for market that I think there will have more potential and more space to develop for this kind of new media.

The purpose of the opener is just the same function as well as previews for movies. Opener can give the audience a quick peek of the show. It helps to set up the mood before the show starts. It can help the audience to gain higher level of interest before they start to watch the show. The show is all about soccer. I would like to name the show "kick back" or "soccer fever". The show will be either before soccer games or after soccer games. It have to have a presenter or mutli-presenters. They can talk about the highlight of the game or doing discussion. In my case, my audiences will be soccer fans and people who are interested in soccer news or interested to see those soccer superstars. The show could be included gossips and rumors about soccer players. Of course, mainly the show is about the major soccer league in the Europe and the news of the players. Hopefully, the audiences can be all age and all sex as long as they have the passion in soccer.

Sound & Motion: non-linear project process document

Sketches

Finally I chose the second idea of my sketches which has a TV at the middle of the screen. It is because people watch most of their sport events in front of their TV. Besides, TV is a object using sound channel and video channel that just totally match up with this project. Since I am a beginner of actionscript and I have limited skill on Flash, I am going to determine how to use the most effective way and simple way to express my idea of my non-liner project.

Process

First I recreate a similar exam as the one we did in class together. I wanted to figure out what was concept of writing an actionscript. I also tried to seek for help on the internet. I tried few tutorials that related to my idea from the internet, I could not figure out any of them. Then I went to find the alternative route to approach my concept. Besides Flash, I also used Photoshop to create images that give users more visual impact and focus less on my actionscript.

Final Process

The users can play the video clip on the TV with pick their sound channel from the dialogue boxes (each dialogue box has a speaker button attached with different sound) It is kind like making your own voice in the soccer game. The dialogue also contain with different expression from the fans. The sounds give more description about insider of the image. you may feel the mood and the passion of these images.

In this project, I definitely learned the concept of actionscript. Even though I am not quite good to figure out the script, I am still looking forward to explore more about actionscript even on my own or taking classes. I also learned about how a decent content can help you out to bring out your message with a big impact (at least it catchs users attendent). Besides, I need to remind myself that always are alternative routes of everything. Just need to figure out how to create the same kind of idea with different appoarch.

Sound & Motion - Newest update of the storyboard and animation

I adjusted the transition between each verb after the last critic about the storyboard. Basically, I clarified and got ripped of the extra elements from the previous storyboard. I took off the soccer ball that was inside of the word "soccer ball" while the action was transiting between juggle to fly. Besides, there was another extra soccer ball have been taken out inside the action was zooming out from Fly to Dribble.

Final animation
just twisted a little bit of the timeframe and added a tiny move into the last action.

I have learned how transition can smooth out the entire composition with three different kind of action. Transition builds the connection between different scenes and actions. However, I get problem of the storyboard, especially on timing. I built my animation timeframe based on the storyboard but when the outcome wasn't as accurately as I expected. It was a bit faster and timeframe didn't have enough time to let the viewers to absorb the action in the animation. Besides, I was struggling on the building to look natural of the hang time of the soccer ball.
Do you have any suggestion or comment on those question?
